Read: Psalm 88:13-14
Before I fall asleep each night, I like to talk about my day with God. I get cozy under my blankets, and before I ask Alexa to turn the lights off, I just pour it all out. I tell Him the good things, I share my concerns, and most nights, it feels like a great conversation. But occasionally, if I’m being honest, I have this intrusive thought: Am I just talking to my ceiling fan? It’s a fleeting moment, and I try not to dwell on it because It’s so uncomfortable.
Have you ever had moments when you felt like God was distant or even absent? You pour out your heart in prayer, but it seems like your words are met with silence. If you’ve ever experienced this, you’re not alone. Even David, a man after God’s own heart, cried out in frustration, feeling abandoned by God at times.
In our fast-paced world, where we’re used to instant messages and quick replies, waiting on God can be especially challenging. We might equate His silence with absence, but the truth is, His presence never leaves us. Feelings can deceive us into thinking God is far away when, in reality, He is closer than we realize. Just as the sun remains even on the cloudiest days, God’s love and presence are constant, even when hidden by the storms of life.
Perhaps these seasons when God feels distant are actually opportunities for growth. They challenge us to deepen our faith and trust in His promises rather than relying on our fluctuating emotions. By immersing ourselves in His Word and remembering His faithfulness, we can find comfort and strength to persevere. God’s promise is that He is always near, even when we can’t feel His presence

- What steps can you take to remind yourself of God’s closeness during those seasons?
- How does it help you to know that even King David struggled with feeling distant from God?
