Read: 1 Peter 2:2, 2 Corinthians 3:18
I went to dinner with a friend the other day, and for the most part, it was a normal experience. Our waiter took our order, but that was the last time we saw him. I know what you’re thinking, “I didn’t see my server again” is usually code for “I had terrible service.” But surprisingly, I had great service. I didn’t see my waiter again because a robot took over. It brought our drinks out quickly and timely, then our food. I had no complaints. The robot was efficient, didn’t interrupt our conversation, and delivered consistent, almost instant results.
The skeptics in us might complain about what robots mean for society, but you know why we keep using them? Because we love instant results.
We live in a world of instant results—fast food, rapid delivery, and quick fixes. It’s no wonder we often expect spiritual growth to happen the same way. We pray for instant transformation, hoping that God will “zap” us with holiness. But true growth in Christ doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a slow, incremental process that takes time, patience, and persistence.
Think about physical growth. Babies don’t become adults in a matter of days—it takes years of gradual development. Similarly, our spiritual growth is a journey. We are being transformed from one degree of glory to another, often in ways that are so slow and subtle that we can’t see the change happening in real-time. It’s only when we look back over months and years that we realize just how far God has brought us.
Don’t get discouraged when progress feels slow. Trust that God is at work in the little, daily moments. Keep feeding on the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word, keep practicing what He’s teaching you, and trust that growth is happening, even if it’s not immediately visible.
Questions for Reflection:
- Where have you been frustrated with slow progress in your spiritual life?
- How can you trust God’s process of gradual transformation in your life?
- What small steps can you take today that will contribute to long-term growth?
