Read: Luke 15, Jeremiah 29:11

In this chapter, we hear the story of one hundred sheep and one that gets lost. It then discusses ten coins and one that was lost. Then, we see two sons, one of whom gets lost for a while. This chapter shows God valuing a personal relationship with Him as his love for us is the theme.

If we think about the prodigal son, a few words may come to mind: disrespect, impatience, lust, deception, unfaithfulness, selfishness, carelessness, and recklessness. We see someone who’s selfish vision led to a sinking life.

The prodigal son had this thought, which we often think as well: “My plan is better than my father’s plan.” Sons and daughters may think this toward their parents and people can have such a thought toward God.

Sometimes we may reach a fork in the road of our lives where we have to decide if God’s plan is better than our plan. We can see ourselves standing there, at the fork, wondering which way to go. Are we going to follow God’s perfect plan for our lives, or are we going to follow our own plans and ask God to bless our plans?

We always know in our hearts that God’s plan is better, yet somehow, we do not always want to do things God’s way. Sometimes, we just want to do what we want and hope that God is not paying attention to us. God always has a plan for our lives. May we finally realize that His plans are always better than our plans.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. Do we ever know what God probably wants but disregard it anyway?
  2. Does that mean we trust ourselves more than we trust God?
  3. How do we make a change in this thinking?
