Read: Acts 2:42, Psalm 119:105

The ocean is big. I know you know that, but as a novice sailor, I can tell you that being on a sailboat with nothing but 180° of sky above you and 360° of water around you is simultaneously the most exciting and terrifying experience you can have. If you get lost, there is almost no hope you will be found. Because it’s so daunting, I enrolled in an intensive course on navigation and reading nautical charts—it was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. But for me, these lessons were lifelines, ensuring I’d likely never get lost at sea.

In our spiritual journey, the Bible serves as that map—guiding us through life’s challenges and uncertainties. The early church understood the importance of Scripture, which is why they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching. They didn’t just read the Word; they allowed it to shape their lives, decisions, and community. The Word of God wasn’t just a source of knowledge for them—it was the foundation of their faith and the authority in their lives.

Today, we have more access to Scripture than any generation before us, but with that access comes the temptation to take it for granted. It’s easy to skim through a passage or listen to a sermon without allowing the Word to truly sink in and transform us. But Scripture isn’t just another book; it’s the living Word of God, meant to illuminate our path and guide our steps.

As believers, we need to return to the centrality of Scripture in our lives. It should be the lens through which we view the world, the compass that directs our decisions, and the foundation upon which we build our lives. When we prioritize the Word, we are better equipped to face the challenges of life, make godly decisions, and grow in our relationship with Christ.

Questions to Ponder:

  1. How central is Scripture in your daily life and decision-making?
  2. What steps can you take to deepen your engagement with God’s Word?
  3. How can you encourage others in your community to prioritize Scripture in their lives?
