Read: 1 John 4:4, Colossians 1:13

I just rewatched the original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire, Peter Parker spends much of his time trying to balance his everyday life with his identity as Spider-Man. Even after defeating villains like Green Goblin or Doc Ock, new threats keep emerging. I remember thinking, “Sheesh, why is everything so difficult, can’t people just chill for one second and give Peter Parker a break!” But they never do. Just when you think the battle is over, something else rises up. Its frustrating at times to know that even though the hero wins major victories, the fight for good is never completely done.

As believers, we live in a similar tension. Jesus has already won the victory through His death and resurrection. Sin and death have been defeated! Praise God! But, we still feel the weight of spiritual warfare in our lives and in the world around us. Evil has not disappeared completely. It is still active, but it is not in control. The power of darkness is limited and temporary because Jesus reigns as the victorious King.

This is important to remember when life feels overwhelming. The struggles you face today may seem powerful, but they do not get the final word. You have already been rescued from the domain of darkness. You now belong to the kingdom of Christ. That means you are not fighting for victory, you are fighting from victory. You are not trapped by sin, because the Spirit of God lives within you and empowers you to overcome.

We do not need to live in fear or defeat. God calls us to walk in boldness and confidence, knowing that His power is greater than anything the enemy can throw our way. We may still face temptations, trials, and spiritual resistance, but we are not alone. Christ is with us, and His strength is more than enough. So even when it feels like evil is making a comeback, stand firm. The battle may continue, but the war is already won.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where in your life do you feel like you are still facing spiritual battles?
  2. How does it change your mindset to know that Jesus has already defeated the enemy?
  3. What would it look like for you to live today with the confidence of someone who is on the winning side?
