Read: Ephesians 6:10-13, 1 Thessalonians 3:5-7
Paul acknowledges the spiritual warfare underlying the persecution faced by the Thessalonian church. He expresses concern that the tempter might have led them astray but rejoices upon hearing Timothy’s report of their steadfast faith and love.
In Ephesians, Paul instructs believers to put on the full armor of God to stand against the devil’s schemes. Our struggle is not merely against human opposition but against spiritual forces of evil. This perspective helps us understand that persecution is part of a larger spiritual battle.
Consider how a soldier prepares for battle, equipping themselves with armor and weapons to stand firm against the enemy. Similarly, we must equip ourselves with the spiritual armor provided by God—truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the word of God.
Reflect on how you can better equip yourself for spiritual warfare. Recognize that the trials and persecutions you face are part of this battle and that God provides the strength and armor needed to stand firm.
Questions for Reflection:
- How can you better equip yourself with the full armor of God?
- In what ways have you experienced spiritual warfare in your life?
- How can you support and encourage others who are facing spiritual battles?
