And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
— Acts 13:52

Sometimes we see it. Sometimes we don’t. I want to share with you one time that I saw it clearly.

It was a beautiful October Saturday afternoon. I was sitting in the stands of the old Ownby Stadium on the campus of SMU. My son Scott and my wife Vicki were with me. We were there to watch SMU play some college football. Scott had received some recruiting letters from various colleges, and he had been invited to visit the SMU campus on this day. After a pregame meeting, we were now in the stands.

It was one of those perfect autumn days. As the three of us sat in the stands, the colors seemed way more vivid than normal, the air a little more crisp. It was really perfect. That was when I saw it.

I got a very distinct tap on the shoulder. I was being told, “Hey don’t miss this. This is good.”

The Holy Spirit pointed out to me that a thankful heart would be an appropriate response to this gift from God. I was given a great gift to enjoy that day. I was thankful for the prompting of the Spirit. It led me to be filled with joy. I have experienced things like this numerous times over the years. I just wanted to share this one with you.

But sometimes, we don’t see it. What a tragic thing to be given gifts from God, only to have them to go unnoticed by His children. Let’s keep our eyes and ears open today for the prompting of our God to rejoice and give thanks. Joy will follow.

If you have not trusted in Christ as your savior, do it today. He can bring joy into your life.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.— Romans 15:13strong>
