Read: 1 Thessalonians 4:9-10, 1 John 3:14-18

When I first started in ministry, I worked at a church part-time for literal pennies on the dollar while I was in school full-time. I was young then, so I had a lot of energy. The problem was that my church salary was not enough to cover my tuition, so I had to have other jobs besides my part-time ministry to make ends meet. It was hard. Fortunately, a very compassionate widow in our church saw that I was stressed out, Without asking and full of compassion, she paid off the final $1000 dollars of tuition for me. That was a lot of money for someone making $3.75 an hour! This act of love changed my life.

Can you think of a time when someone showed you profound love and kindness? Perhaps it was a friend who stood by you during a tough time or a stranger who offered unexpected help. These acts of love leave a lasting impact and often come at moments when we need them most.

Paul emphasizes the importance of brotherly love among the Thessalonians, urging them to continue growing in their love for one another. This love is a powerful testimony of our faith and a direct reflection of God’s love for us.

In 1 John 3:14–18, we are reminded that love is the evidence of our passage from death to life. It is through loving one another that we demonstrate the transformative power of the Gospel. This love is not just in words but in actions, as Christ laid down His life for us.

Consider how you can deepen your love for those around you. Reflect on ways to show tangible acts of kindness and support, understanding that these actions are a testament to your faith and a reflection of God’s love.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. How has someone’s act of love impacted your life?
  2. In what ways can you show deeper love and kindness to those around you?
  3. How can your actions reflect the transformative power of the Gospel?
