Read: LUKE 22:44, Matthew 5:17

The Bible has a major plot twist. The Old Testament—comprising the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings—sets the stage for the arrival of Jesus. Every part of it points to the coming of the Savior and finds its fulfillment in Him.

Jesus Himself affirmed the authority of the Old Testament, making it clear that He didn’t come to replace it, but to fulfill it. Everything—from the sacrifices to the laws and prophecies—was ultimately about Him. The entire story of Scripture leads us to Jesus, the culmination of God’s plan to redeem humanity.

When we read the Old Testament, we should look for Jesus in its pages. It reveals God’s unfolding plan, one that began long before the New Testament was written. By understanding the Old Testament’s role, we can better grasp the fullness of the gospel and the depth of God’s love for us.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How do you see Jesus in the Old Testament?
  2. Why do you think it’s important to study both the Old and New Testaments?
  3. How can seeing Jesus as the fulfillment of Scripture deepen your relationship with Him?
