Read: Jeremiah 29:13
There’s this strange thing that sometimes happens when I’m driving. I’ll park my car at home, and suddenly realize I have no idea how I got there. I remember getting into the car, and I’m aware that I parked safely, but those 45 minutes in between are a complete blur. What happened? Why did I zone out? It doesn’t just happen when I’m driving. Sometimes, I find myself going through the motions in life on autopilot, remembering only small flashes of the day because I was lost in my thoughts rather than being present. These moments are not just bad for me, but they’re also bad for my relationships.
God desires to be intimately close with us, but He also invites us into an active pursuit of His presence. He doesn’t force His way into our lives; instead, He stands at the door and knocks, waiting for us to open it. When we feel distant from God, it may be His way of calling us to a deeper level of relationship—to seek Him with renewed passion and focus.
This pursuit of God requires intentionality and commitment. In a world overflowing with distractions—social media feeds, work pressures, personal commitments—it’s easy to become complacent in our faith. We might go through the motions without truly engaging with God. However, He longs for a relationship where we earnestly seek each other. Like any meaningful relationship, it thrives on mutual pursuit and dedication.
If you’re in a season where God feels distant, consider it an invitation to draw nearer to Him. Carve out time in your day to pray, meditate on His Word, and simply sit in His presence. Remember that seeking God is not about checking off a to-do list but about cultivating a heartfelt desire to know Him more. He promises that when we seek Him with all our heart, we will indeed find Him.
Reflection Questions:
- How intentional are you in seeking God in your daily life?
- What can you do to pursue God with greater passion and focus?
- In what ways has God drawn you closer to Him in times when He felt distant?
