Read: Romans 8:32

I have a friend who is an excellent gift giver. What makes him so good at it isn’t just his generosity—it’s his mindfulness. Somehow, he remembers the little things I mention in passing, like something I liked or wanted. Recently, he surprised me with one of those gifts out of the blue, and I was blown away. When I asked why he went out of his way, he just shrugged and said, “You were on my mind, and I wanted to.”

That kind of thoughtfulness hit me in a way I didn’t expect. It wasn’t just a nice gesture—it felt like a reflection of God’s love: completely unearned and given freely.

That moment made me think about how God’s generosity shapes our understanding of love. Romans 8:32 says, “He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” God’s very nature is to give, and everything we have flows from His generous heart. He gave us life, His Spirit, and ultimately, His Son.

As believers, we are called to reflect that same character. When we give sacrificially—whether it’s our time, resources, or encouragement—we mirror God’s love to those around us. Giving isn’t just about meeting needs; it’s about offering the world a glimpse of God’s heart.

The Christian life isn’t just about receiving—it’s about giving freely, just as we have received. Every time we give, we embody God’s nature and point others to the beauty of His sacrificial love.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does giving help you become more like Jesus?
  2. In what areas can you grow in generosity?
  3. How can your giving point others to God’s love?
