Read: Proverbs 21:1, Job 12:23

My favorite sports movie growing up was Rocky IV. I loved the end of the movie because they do such a great job at building the tension in the film. The nail-biting moments—everything feels like it could go either way. Elections can feel a lot like that. The endless news cycles, debates, and opinions make it seem like the future hinges on the outcome of a single event. But as believers, we know that the world doesn’t hang in the balance of political outcomes. God is in control, even when things seem uncertain. He is the one who shapes nations and steers the hearts of leaders. Our faith must rest in Him, not in the fleeting promises of any political system.

It’s easy to feel anxious during an election season. We’re told that everything rides on the outcome, and that the future of our country is at stake. But Scripture reminds us that God is ultimately in control. He is the one who raises up leaders and brings them down, and He holds the future of nations in His hands.

While it’s important to engage with the political process, we must remember that our faith is not in politicians or parties. Our hope is in Jesus, the true Savior of the world. Governments will rise and fall, but God’s kingdom will last forever. When we anchor our hope in Christ, we can approach politics with a sense of peace, knowing that God is sovereign over all.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How can you maintain peace during a stressful political season?
  2. What are some practical ways to keep your hope rooted in Christ rather than in political outcomes?
  3. How can trusting in God’s sovereignty change the way you engage with politics?
