Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.
— Colossians 3:23

People who have a strong sense of purpose can do great things.

God has given us a purpose: to bring honor to him and to encourage his people.

The Word tells us that God has prepared tasks for us to do. And not only that, he promises to empower us with all of the power (the Holy Spirit) we will need to accomplish the task at hand. Do you sense his purpose, direction and help in your life? If so, you are primed to accomplish your calling in Christ.

The Bible is full of stories about people who had a very clear sense of purpose as they lived their lives. When David faces Goliath, we hear his words from the battlefield, “This day the Lord will hand you over to me and I will strike you down, and the whole world will know there is a God in Israel. “ David was not just trying to show off his skill with the slingshot that day. He was fulfilling his purpose and accomplishing the task that had been set before him. And he was doing it to give glory to his God. In fact he later tells us that “the battle is the Lord’s.” David had a sense of purpose as he ran to the battleline that day. And he knew his God was with him.

I doubt any of us are going to be called today to fight a giant. Thank goodness for that. But whatever job we approach should be seen as a potential place for God to work through us to bring glory to him. God can use you and what you are doing today to be a light in this world and bring glory to him.

Do you sense his purpose in your life today? It is a powerful and exciting thing when you realize that God wants to use you to do great things.
