Read: Malachi 3:6, Psalm 102:25–27

Immutable means that God is unchanging in His being, perfections, purposes, and promises.

A recent survey done by Lifeway and Legioneer showed that many people believe that God changes His mind. I get why people want to believe this. They want to believe that prayer is an act that changes God’s mind. Sometimes people want to think that the moral standards of God have changed as humanity has changed.

God does not change. God is complete in his purposes and promises. He is not evolving emotionally or morally. He is not growing in wisdom or understanding. He is not becoming more loving or compassionate. You will not change his mind or make a petition that will convince him to do anything he does not already want to do. God is unchanging, and that’s a good thing.

The unchanging nature of God can give you peace. Because he is the same yesterday, today, and forever, you can trust him to be who he says he is and to do what he says he will do. You can expect him to act justly in all things and be merciful and gracious to all who call on his name. God is not going to stop loving you. He is not going to change his mind about your salvation. You can count on him in everything.

Today, think about what it means that God is always the same. Does this surprise you? In what ways? How can this help you trust him more?
