Read John 14:1–14.
Jesus is truth because he is the fulfillment of all that God has promised.
Jesus makes some very bold claims about himself throughout the new Testament. One of the most controversial claims is found in John 14:
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
— John 14:6
C.S. Lewis said that you have only a few options when it comes to your belief about Jesus when he claims to be the Son of God:
- He is a liar.
- He is a lunatic.
- He is Lord.
Jesus either spent his life living a lie, he was a nutcase who was completely out of touch with reality, or he was right. He claims that the only way to the Father, the only way to eternal life, is through Him. He could not have been simply a good teacher, or a prophet, or a wise man and made claims such as that.
So he must be the truth. He must be the fulfillment of more than 300 prophecies. Jesus is the truth because he is what all of scripture had been pointing to. Every story, every moment in scripture was talking about him. It was telling the truth of God’s plan to save us. And that plan summed up in one word is Jesus.
