God Loves Us

Read Romans 5:8, John 3:16 and 1 John 4:7–12.

Love is an interesting thing. We experience it in so many forms. We can love our favorite foods and (more intensely) love our spouses. Whatever form we experience it in, love is wonderful. But where does it come from?

1 John 4 tells us plainly that love is from God. Not only that, scripture tells us that the perfect expression of God’s love is found in the person of Jesus. We see him feed the hungry, heal the sick, welcome the weary, and ultimately die on the cross. Through the person of Christ, we see God sharing his kindness and grace freely, openly, and without reservation.

When we feel separated from God, it is easy to forget how much he loves us. Today as you strive to reconnect with God, spend time meditating on what it means to be loved by God. Remembering the cross bears witness to the ever-present reality that God is love. You’ve been forgiven, cherished, and adopted into the family of God, and nothing can ever separate you from God’s love.

Prayer:

Father, today help us to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Help us to know this love that surpasses knowledge so that we can experience the fullness of God. In your mercy, correct any false understanding of love that we have and heal any brokenness caused by disappointments in people and relationships, or anything else that would keep us from you. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
