“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
— Matthew 7:24

Following the guidance and counsel of our Savior makes us wise. How can we benefit from this truth? The Christmas story gives us examples of some ways to find God and to benefit from it.

The wise men modeled one way. The wise men found Jesus. They found the Savior. Why? Because they searched for him. In fact, they traveled a long way to find Jesus. They were observant. They saw a star that was different. They recognized the star as a sign from God. Then they took action and followed God’s call to them, and they found the Savior.

Not all searched for God’s son. All of the religious leaders of that day were in Jerusalem, which was much closer geographically to the Savior than the wise men were. But not one of them traveled to see God’s son. But the wise men did. The same is true today. Not all people search for the Savior and the grace, love and wisdom He offers. But some do and they find Him.

How about you? Have you searched for God? Have you found and accepted the great gift of Christmas? You have a Savior. Finding him and following his counsel and spirit will make you wise. The scripture tells us it will make you like the wise man who built his house on the Rock.

There will never be a better time for you to accept this gift of grace than this Christmas.

The wise men modeled two other things for us.

When they saw the star they were overjoyed. On coming into the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.
— Matthew 2: 10–11

When they found the Savior, the Wisemen responded with great joy, and they worshiped Him. We should do the same this Christmas.
