Read: Isaiah 9:7, Philippians 2:10-11

A friend of mine recently shared about a cruise he and his wife took to the Mediterranean. While in port, they explored ancient Greek and Roman sites—places that once stood as the center of power and culture for the known world. As he described the ruins, I couldn’t help but think about the rise and fall of kingdoms. What once seemed indestructible is now a collection of crumbling stones and weathered statues, reminders of how fleeting earthly power can be.

In contrast, the kingdom of Jesus is eternal. Isaiah 9:7 describes a kingdom established on justice, righteousness, and peace—a reign that has no end. While empires like Rome, Greece, and countless others have come and gone, the reign of Christ continues to grow. Philippians 2:10–11 assures us that one day every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. His kingdom is not built on human power or ambition but on eternal truth and divine authority.

When we look around at the chaos and instability in the world today, it’s easy to feel unsettled. But as followers of Jesus, we belong to a kingdom that is unshakable. His rule brings peace in the midst of uncertainty, hope in the face of despair, and justice where there is injustice. No matter how much the world changes, Jesus remains the King of Kings, reigning with love and righteousness.

This Christmas season, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, let’s also remember that we are part of His eternal kingdom. We’re called to live as citizens of this kingdom, reflecting its values in our daily lives. By living with love, integrity, and compassion, we can point others to the King who reigns forever.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does reflecting on the rise and fall of earthly kingdoms remind you of the power of Jesus’ eternal reign?
  2. Are there areas in your life that you need to fully surrender to Jesus as King?
  3. How can you live in a way that reflects the values of Jesus’ eternal kingdom today?
