”He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
— Micah 6:8

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.“
— Matthew 16:18

As a follower of Christ, I have to admit that I get sick of all the lies people spread about the Church. Those who are against the Church try and convince the world that we are a hate group. They believe that, to be a Christian, you have to agree with conservative American politics. They think Christians hate LGBTQ+, the planet, women and immigrants, and thay are xenophobic, especially toward non-white/non-Christian people groups. They are trying to convince the world that Christians only care about middle-class white American values.

The truth is that, as Christians, we care about the things that God cares about. We care about things like justice, love and mercy. The result of loving those things has impacted the world in countless ways.

For example, universities, hospitals, and countless charitable organizations worldwide exist because of Christians. In America alone, the Red Cross, Alcoholics Anonymous, the YMCA and ASPCA were all created by Christians. Many of the most outstanding scientists, artists, musicians and thinkers to ever live were devoted followers of Christ.

Historically, the Church has fought against slavery and racism and fought for human rights, justice and women’s rights. The Church has feet on the ground after natural disasters, during famines, and pandemics. Every day, the Church fights against poverty, disease, tyranny and oppression on a global level.

To be the Church is to be the light of the world. Is it irritating that people gloss over all that? Absolutely. But it does not matter if we do not get credit. What does matter is that we continue to show the world what it means that God loves them.

So today, do the work of loving a lost world. Be the kingdom of God everywhere you go. And remember: the Church will not be shaken.
