And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him.
— John 14:16–17
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
— John17:3
How much God must love us to create, to inspire and to internally guide us to himself through himself. For those of us who have placed our trust in Christ, we are given the gift of his internal counsel through the Holy Spirit. And at that moment of reception, the magic ensues, the eyes of our hearts are opened, the beauty of Christ is revealed, and our minds are fractured with the knowledge of our sins so that our journeys may begin.
The beauty of this earth he reveals, not as a sunset that comes and goes to briefly awe us, but as a masterpiece returning daily that speaks as if from another world calling us home. The Word of God as the written story of Jesus inspired by him resonates truth to us through him and, if we strive desperately to remain facing his counsel, we are peacefully and joyfully led into knowing Jesus as he knows and loves us.
“As love comes from heaven, so it must feed on heavenly bread.
The very soul and life of our love to God is His love to us.”
— Charles Spurgeon, Morning by Morning
If the chaos of this world has you afraid and lost and wondering where to find truth, turn your face toward God. He is waiting for you to receive him. He is waiting for you to love him. He is waiting to turn you from darkness into his light and, by the fruits of his Spirit, bring you “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” in the peace that is eternal life with him.
“Tis when we taste Thy love,
Our joys divinely grow,
Unspeakable like those above,
And heaven begins below.”
— Charles Spurgeon, Morning by Morning
