It’s been said that you can’t take it with you when you go. Some joke that they have never seen a trailer hitched to a hearse. The Bible says it more poetically:
Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.
— Job 1:21
Simply put, you can’t take anything with you when you go. We came in with nothing, and we will leave with nothing. Your money, your possessions, they all stay here. But maybe there is one thing you can take with you.
I once heard a sermon about a pastor who met a street evangelist in New Orleans. This evangelist was a big dude who shared his faith with those in the city. When asked what motivated him to share his faith so boldly, he simply responded, “I’m going to heaven and I’m taking as many people as I can with me.”
Wow! Maybe you can take something with you. Not money or possessions, but people. What’s interesting is that money and possessions have no value in heaven, but people do. The currency of heaven is people. Want to go to heaven? That’s great, but make sure that you take some people with you. I want to live my life with that one goal in mind. Don’t you?
